For 75 years, AIR has been distinctive part of the Indian way of life. From a small beginning, in the form of radio clubs in 1927. With one of the largest network of SW/MW/FM transmitters, AIR, reaches the remotest corners of the country to serve the people. People living in far flung areas with modest means can also have access to its programmes if a small transistor radio set run on dry batteries is available with them. AIR functions on a moto “Bahujana Hitaya Bahujan Sukhaya” i.e. promote the happiness and welfare of the masses through education, information and entertainment. To this end it has evolved a three-tier system of broadcasting viz. national, regional & local. AIR services are operated through Primary Channels, the National Channel, Commercial Broadcasting Services (Vividh Bharti), FM Channels & External Services.
Today AIR has a network of 213 broadcasting centers covering 90% of the area & almost reaching the entire population of one bilion.

DOORDARSHAN

Doordarshan Network in India is divided into 5 zones. North, South, East, West & North East Zones.The West Zone looks after the installation, maintenance & ensuring proper operation of all Transmitters, Studios & Low Power Transmitters in the States of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh & Goa. There are 11 Doordarshan Kendras, 16 High Power Transmitters & large number of Low Power Transmitters (under the control of Doordarshan Maintenance Centres) to telecast various programmes of Doordarshan terrestrially. Major Kendras are equipped with Digital studios, OB Vans & Uplinking facilities to produce & cover various live programmes & to telecast the same via satellites.
